Last weekend we (family) went to a weekend getaway to Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. We stayed at River Tern Lodge, an eco tourism concept from Jungle Lodges and Resorts. Thought the main attraction was the Jungle safari, but being the rainy season we could not spot many animals and picture taking was a challenge. We did spot a Tiger which I will post later. We were told that time before monsoon is best to stop animals gathering at the few remaining water bodies, but monsoon makes the forest lush green.
In the morning we went to a boat safari to visit nesting islands of River Tern birds. The Bhadra Water Reservoir has several small islands. The one we visited was less than 100 meters in diameter probably. These birds were all action hunting fishes. We were not allowed to step our feet on the soil. All these pictures were taken from the boat. It was drizzling all the time. The boat was shaking and the fast movement of these small birds made it quite a challenge to take pictures. I had several failures in the past in photographing birds but I guess I learned a few tricks from my failures. I am pretty happy with a bunch of my shots this time. Hope you enjoy this series.
