Sacred moments of an Indian marriage - V/VI

Posted by Shuva Brata Deb (Bangalore, India) on 24 August 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture.

In this part of the country(Andhra, India), the groom put the ring on his bride's toe finger. Why? Please dont ask me. I dont know. Would appreciate of someone who knows throw more light here.

Shuva I thought you were going to explain some beautiful tradition for us. I feel let down..heh! =)

I do really like the concentration of just arms and feet in this photo. Lots to absorb...and of course now you have me wondering what is the tradition? I hope someone here can explain.

Superb silken B&W tones. I've heard about this, and seen western women imitating the toe ring look as a fashion, probably without knowing its significance.

I love this photograph - I like that you can not see their faces...it accentuates the gesture itself. I wish I had answers for you, but i have no idea why this is done - i would like to know now as well...
