Sacred moments of an Indian marriage - III/VI

Canon EOS REBEL XT 1/15 second F/4.5 ISO 200 31 mm

Soodabeh from Yazd, Iran

Beautiful cultural series, Shuva! I always like to know about other countries' cultures specially the marriages which is the best moments in everyone's life!
Amazing shot! I wish you posted this excellent series in full colors! Indian clothes and celebrations are full of brilliant vivid colors.

@Soodabeh: Even I like the vibrant colors, but I decided to stick to B/W for no good reasons actually.

Wow... nice moment... so convincing in BW and fittingly framed.

I've never seen this in an indian wedding :)

What part of the country does this custom attach to?

22 Aug 2007 12:17pm

@Hitesh Sawlani: This is Andhra Pradesh and the stuff being poured is rice mixed with turmeric. I also dont know the significance of this. I asked the groom today, but he too does not know. :-)

Wonderful series Shuva! But so far this is my favorite, love the rice flow...

In formal times, we (catholics/Portugal) also used to throw (nicely) rice at the bride & groom, outside the church. Now in many countries, churches do no longer allow this (for ex. Germany), due to the mess outside; further, due to hunger in some parts of the world, many brides & grooms decide against this costum as it is such a big waste (imagine how many kilos rice were thrown by so many relatives).

I believe, rice is a messenger for prosperity and to be blessed with many children... which makes me think now, I have none of it...
