How I missed the lunar eclipse.Posted by Shuva Brata Deb (Bangalore, India) on 5 March 2007 in Miscellaneous. "March 03 2007, 2130 hrs UT" was how it read at the NASA page about the start of the umbra. I added 530 hours (India time) and figured out that its safe to go to the roof and setup the tripod at around 2:30 am in the morning for the eclipse. Me and my wife waited, waited and waited till 4:15 am but not a shadow was cast on the moon. Suddenly(my great presence of mind) we figured out the blunder. March 03 2130 hours would mean March 04 3:00 am India time. This meant that we need to lose sleep again the next day. Come next day, our newly married friends Abhishek and Rakhi showed up. We had lot of food and drinks. They decided that it wont be safe to drive back with the alcohol in their minds. They decided to stay back. We all went to bed at 12:15 am. Me and my wife set the alarm at 2:30 am for the lunar eclipse. The alarm did work, we woke up, both of us looked at each other, said "Light lo--so jao" (Forget it, lets get some more sleep). That how I missed the eclipse of March 2007. This is a picture of the moon from the first night. But some of my aminus3 fellow photographers managed to get some cool eclipse shots.
