October 2nd, Gandhiji's Birthday

Posted by Shuva Brata Deb (Bangalore, India) on 2 October 2006 in People & Portrait.

Today is Mahatma Gandhi's birthday--the Father of the Nation occupies a place in almost all Indian's currency notes, perhaps reminding the users of this piece of paper not to make it as the reason of violence(which unfortunately is---Money is the root of violence all over the world)

What is see here is a Rs. 500 Indian currency, backlit so that you can see the water mark (the left face) and also the famous Dandi March which is printed on the other side.

Hey this is cool, I've never seen Indian currency and nice technique to bring out all the details :) I was just wondering if it's really true but I heard my professor once say that Gandhi was a sexist?

@Ryan Yam: You should try to get a copy of the autobiography of the Mahatma,
The Story of My Experiments with Truth
. He does mention about his sexual life--but he became a chaste while still married at the age of 36. But there are more important things that I guess your professor must have told you about him. Haven't he?

Its intresting that 2 holidays came on the sameday and how contrasting they were too. one is about a person who believes in non-violence. The other one is about a goddess durga who kill evil violently. On a day when non-violence should be praticed people were killing chicken and lambs as offerings to the godess durga.
