Kerela Houseboat Tourism IV

Posted by Shuva Brata Deb (Bangalore, India) on 27 September 2006 in Plant & Nature.

This was shot minutes are we embarked our 1 day, 1 night journey in a single-apartment hosueboat. The one you see out there on the right was one of the bigger houseboats--they can have upto 4 apartments, with kitchen.
The backwaters of Kerela consist of a complex network of lagoons, lakes & canals. Life on the backwaters is entirely different; water being the key to everything. There are no roads here, only waterways.

On my future posts,on the banks of the backwaters, you will see lush green rice fields spreading away into the distance and coconut groves with the occasional temple or church; and also a close look at rustic village life. So stay tuned, this is a very long series and probably will be the longest series in aminus3--all photos taken on the same day.
