Alabama St, Peachtree St

Its definitely Atlanta--the two main streets at downtown. It seems Atlanta's old name was Marthasville, prbably from where Marta (the local public transport name) was derived. In 1845-46 Atlanta became the official name. At that time there were 7 main streets: Marietta, Decatur, Peachtree, Whitehall, Pryor, Alabama and Loyd. In fact when I was flying to Atlanta this time there was an illustration in one of the pamphlets of Delta Airlines with this two signs as an indication of Atlanta. So I thought I would do some research about Atlanata and take the real picture of this famous intersection.

Good history....I've never heard this before. Actually, MARTA stands for Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. I like your version better!

I can also add one more piece....Atlanta's "Peachtree Street" was orginally named after the "pitch trees" that lined the rivers here. Somewhere along the way people changed it to "Peachtree" which is funny since no peach trees can be found ANYWHERE in the city! =)

Thank you for these history lessons. I must admit I did not know anything about Atlanta before... shame on me!
